The highly anticipated Windows 10 Falls Creator Update was launched earlier this year on October 17. It’s packed with new features that all Windows users can enjoy. Here, we’ll share our top six favourite minor improvements and major additions that have arrived with this update.

  1.    People Integration: The static Windows 10 taskbar just got more personal. You can now pin your favourite family, friends and co-workers to the task bar for fast access to their contact details. You can even drag and drop things like images directly onto a contact to share them more easily.
  2.    Story Remix: This is a new feature that makes it so easy to throw together a few photos and video clips to create a memorable slideshow – you know, for when you’ve just returned from vacation and want to relive every moment again. If you’re feeling particularly creative, you can even mix in a song or two.
  3.    Windows Mixed Reality Viewer: For this feature, you’ll need a compatible computer and a PC headset. All you need to do is plug any 3-D object into the world around you, and watch as it comes to life in your living room. This new experience is neatly packaged in a new portal (called Cliff House), where you can access games and apps from the one convenient location.
  4.    New emoji: Don’t pretend you’re not excited about the latest Unicode updates in the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. They say a picture paints a thousand words, so you can now talk to your friends using dinosaurs, vampires, mermaids or fairies. There’s even a new keyboard shortcut so you can send the ideal response faster during a conversation.
  5.    Fluent Design: These minor changes include subtle effect and animations. You can more readily resize apps and windows and blur effects, and it’s also much easier on the eyes, with a clear separation between apps and Fluent Design elements.
  6.    Standard security fixes: Even if you’re not into 3-D pictures or don’t find much use for creative apps, it’s still a good idea to update your system for extra security. You’ll get better protection from ransomware with the Windows Defender Application Guard (WDAG), and an extra layer of defence against malware attacks with the Windows Defender Exploit Guard.

Honourable mentions: Headphone and sound improvements, task manager GPU tracking and DPI improvements, Cortana upgrades, and pen and touch enhancements.
